چکیده

Abstract Cocoa Pod Husk (CPH) is the main by-product of cocoa pods (Theobroma cacao L.) with 67-76% fruit weight. However, CPH has a negative impact if it not utilized and disposed directly in environment. The fiber content form lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose, pectin. Cellulose content, especially α-cellulose high potential further utilized, one which nanocellulose. This study aims to produce from husks purity. first research activity carried out was process removing pectin bleaching be free impurities such as pectin, hemicellulose. Then cellulose isolation using Peracetic Acid (PAA) can shorten process. variation PAA concentration 1:4 (mol/mol) without dilution; (mole/mole) by 1:1 (mole/mole). results this were highest 69.39% obtained mole ratio dilution. did qualify SNI 938-2017 standard, 94%. FTIR, XRD, SEM characterization showed that present hydrolysed CPH.

Extraction and Characterization of Gelling and Emulsifying Pectin Fractions from Cacao Pod Husk

With an annual production around 1.6 million tons, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) is still today the world’s largest producer of cocoa beans. This co-generates about 16 million tons of cacao pod husks which are usually left unutilized in plantations to rot, thereby becoming a significant source of disease inoculums. As a way of solving the environmental problem posed by this agrowaste and adding v...

Isolation and characterization of cellulose nanocrystals from garlic skin

For the value-added utilization of underutilized agricultural by-products, garlic skin obtained abundantly in the food processing industry has been tested as a new source of cellulosic materials. Cellulose microfibers (CMF) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were isolated from garlic skin fibers by alkali treatment and acid hydrolysis. The crude fiber, CMF, and CNC of garlic skin were characteriz...
